Quick answers to common questions about the Gen-e2 Customisation Repository

🚀Getting Started

What is the Gen-e2 Customisation Repository?

The Gen-e2 Customisation Repository is a comprehensive platform designed to help developers streamline their AI-assisted coding workflow. It provides a centralized location for managing, customizing, and distributing AI coding instructions, best practices, and guidelines organized by categories, subcategories, and tech stacks.

How do I get started with the repository?

Getting started is easy:

  1. Sign in with your account (or browse as a guest with limited access)
  2. Browse through categories and subcategories to find relevant technologies
  3. Preview content by clicking on tech stack cards
  4. Select the tech stacks you need and add them to your cart
  5. Download the instructions or install directly to VS Code
Do I need to create an account to use the repository?

No, you can browse as a guest. However, guest access is limited to viewing only tech stacks marked for guest access. To access all tech stacks, download complete instructions, or access Insights, you'll need to sign in with an account.

👤Guest Access

What can I do as a guest user?

As a guest, you can:

  • Browse all categories and subcategories
  • View tech stacks marked as guest accessible
  • Preview and download guest-accessible content
  • Access the support page and documentation

Guest users cannot:

  • Select or add tech stacks to cart
  • Download complete instructions
  • Access Insights analytics
How do I sign up for a full account?

Click the "Sign In" button in the top navigation bar. If you don't have an account, you'll be guided through the registration process. Once registered, you'll have full access to all features including downloads and Insights.

⚙️Tech Stacks

What are tech stacks in the repository?

Tech stacks are specific technologies, frameworks, or tools (like React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL) that contain curated AI coding instructions and guidelines. Each tech stack includes version support, content previews, and can be added to your cart for download or direct installation to VS Code.

How do I preview a tech stack's content?

Click on any tech stack card to open the preview modal. For guest users, only tech stacks marked with guest access are visible. Authenticated users can see and download all available tech stacks.

Can I select multiple tech stacks at once?

Yes! Use the checkboxes on tech stack cards to select multiple items. Selected items are added to your cart, which appears at the bottom of the page. You can then download all selected items at once or install them directly to VS Code.

What are the different versions for tech stacks?

Tech stacks may have multiple versions corresponding to different releases of the technology (e.g., React 17, React 18, React 19). Each version has tailored instructions specific to that release. Use the version dropdown on the tech stack card to select the version you need.

📝Content Types

What are the different content types available?

The repository supports four content types:

  • Rules (.rules) - Coding standards, best practices, and conventions
  • Prompts (.prompts) - Guidance templates for AI interactions and code generation
  • Agents (.agents) - Specialized AI agent configurations for specific tasks
  • Skills (.skills) - Reusable workflows and development capabilities
When should I use Rules vs Prompts?

Use Rules when:

  • Defining coding standards and conventions
  • Establishing architecture patterns
  • Setting security or performance requirements

Use Prompts when:

  • Generating new code or components
  • Requesting specific refactoring tasks
  • Creating documentation or tests
What's the difference between Agents and Skills?

Agents are specialized AI configurations for automated tasks like code reviews, security scanning, or test generation. They work autonomously on specific operations.

Skills are reusable workflows and procedures for common development tasks like deployment, database setup, or integration implementation. They provide step-by-step guidance.

📊Insights

What are Insights?

Insights is an analytics dashboard that provides comprehensive statistics about repository usage. It shows usage trends, top content, recent activity, and view statistics. This helps teams understand which tech stacks are most popular and identify usage patterns.

Who can access Insights?

Insights are only available to authenticated users. Guest users cannot access the Insights section. Sign in to view detailed analytics about usage trends, popular content, and activity patterns.

What kind of data does Insights show?

Insights displays:

  • Usage Trends: Daily, weekly, and monthly download and preview activity
  • Top Content: Most downloaded and previewed tech stacks
  • Recent Activity: Real-time feed of repository interactions
  • View Statistics: Detailed breakdown of content engagement

📥Downloads & Installation

How do I download tech stack instructions?

To download instructions:

  1. Sign in to your account (downloads require authentication)
  2. Select tech stacks by checking the boxes on their cards
  3. Click "Generate Snippets" in the cart at the bottom of the page
  4. Your instructions will be packaged and downloaded as files
Can I install instructions directly to VS Code?

Yes! Each tech stack card has a "Quick Install" button that allows you to install instructions directly to VS Code or VS Code Insiders. This automatically places the files in the correct location within your editor, ready to use immediately.

What format are the downloaded files?

Downloaded files have extensions based on their content type: .rules, .prompts, .agents, or .skills. These are text-based files optimized for AI coding assistants and can be opened with any text editor. They contain structured instructions in a format that AI tools can understand and apply.

Can I download multiple versions at once?

Yes, you can select different versions for each tech stack in your cart. Use the version dropdown on each tech stack card to choose the specific version you need before downloading. All selected versions will be included in the download package.

🔧Troubleshooting

Why can't I see the checkbox to select tech stacks?

All users, including guests, can see checkboxes on tech stacks they have access to. Guest users only see tech stacks marked for guest access by administrators. If you're not seeing any checkboxes, it may be because no content has been marked for guest access yet. Sign in to access all tech stacks.

Why is the Insights link not visible in my navigation?

The Insights link is only visible to authenticated users. If you're browsing as a guest, you won't see this navigation item. Sign in to access Insights and view analytics about repository usage.

What content can I access as a guest?

As a guest, you can only see and access tech stacks that administrators have explicitly marked for guest access. For these accessible tech stacks, you have full functionality including viewing complete content, selecting items, and downloading instructions. To access all tech stacks regardless of guest access settings, sign in with an account.

The download button isn't working. What should I do?

If downloads aren't working, try these steps:

  1. Ensure you're signed in (downloads require authentication)
  2. Check that you've selected at least one tech stack
  3. Clear your browser cache and try again
  4. Try a different browser if the issue persists
  5. Contact support at support@gene2-customisation.com if problems continue
